Beyond Parties and PNMs: An Integrated Model for Women's and Gender Centers and Sororities
Rita Jones, PhD
Director of the Center for Gender Equity

Nationally, Women's and Gender Centers and Panhellenic sororities have a strained--if any--relationship on college and university campuses. They often see each other as the antithesis to the other's existence, and on campuses where a relationship exists, it's based upon a "you come to our program, we'll come to yours" approach. For over 3 years, the Lehigh Center for Gender Equity and Panhellenic Council have grown a collaborative relationship. I attend and actively participate in the weekly Council meetings, and members of the Council and individual chapters seek out opportunities to learn more from the CGE through workshops and consulting. This presentation will cover some of the lessons learned, ideas for future development, and
continued ideological challenges I've encountered over my time at Lehigh.

Rita Jones is Director of the Center for Gender Equity at Lehigh University. She spends time
driving her kids to hockey, soccer, and music lessons and performances, learning about 18th Century British masculinity from her spouse, and cuddling with her cat. She strives to do and create spaces for others to do feminist praxis, and this presentation offers one such example. Her favorite part of her current role is being able to work with so many wonderful people in so many areas across campus. Every day opens up new opportunities for learning. When she can, she catches up on new theories and representations of pregnancy and childbirth, her major
research area.
