Posthumanities Speaker Series - April 2, 2015
Jasbir Puar

The Humanities Center and the Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies Program will host Jasbir Puar as part of the "Posthumanities" speaker series on April 2, 2015 at 4pm in Linderman 200. Jasbir Puar's groundbreaking scholarship considers how "assemblages" trouble intersectional accounts of identity. Her 2007 book, Terrorist Assemblages, examines how nationalist and counterterrorist practices in the wake of September 11 reshape figurations of race, gender, sexuality, and ethnicity, and her new book, Affective Politics, analyzes disability, bodily assemblages, and identity. Her work is a fantastic resource for anyone interested in feminist and queer theory, critical race theory, biopolitics, Deleuzean philosophy, and tecnhoscience criticism.

The Humanities Center and the Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies Program are organizing a reading group for interested faculty and graduate students in advance of Prof. Puar's visit. The group will meet in the Humanities Center living room on Friday, March 20th and Friday, March 27th at noon. In order to get a good sense of Prof. Puar's Terrorist Assemblages and her more recent scholarship, we will read a group of articles. At our first meeting, we will discuss "Queer Times, Queer Assemblages" and at our second meeting, we will discuss "I Would Rather Be a Cyborg Than a Goddess" and "Homonationalism As Assemblage."
